| The sailboat shop guy I know, Tom, called and said the buyer's wife was giving him static on the boat purchase (sounds familiar x 2 of us).
Was asking $15,500 Buyer offered and was accepted at an offer of $15,000.
I reminded Tom that he told me it would need a bottom job sooner than later. He backed off of that, saying it had one a year or two ago and would eventually need another. I reminded him that he told me it would cost $2k. I added that I was not going to pay full price for a boat he told me would need a bottom job. I told him about my extensive research into average boat ASKING prices around the US, that the asking prices and NADA valuations were as follows: Avg retail" $14,650 Avg SailboatListings price: $13,273 NADA: $14,080 Yachtworld: $13,750
I told him that the average of all of these ASKING prices and valuations was: $13,938, less HIS cost of the bottom job ($2k) would be $11,938, that I would offer between $12k and $13k--and I haven't even seen the inside yet! He said he doesn't put much stock in NADA because the banks were the cause of our recent financial fall... What? Er...WTF? Anyway, I am lowering my boat price from $4,950 to $4,250, and now to $3999 firm, in order to get quick cash for a down.
And, the credit union hasn't even said yes, yet. They wanted inside and outside pics and a VIN.
They have no reason to say no except that they might not lend on older sailboats as a risk. I'll remind them that its a signature loan anyway. Idiots!
Now, to lower the price on my boat and figure out how to get my wife to agree to a second sailboat...sound familiar? Thought so!
Mine should sell at $4k.
I'm sure there will be more drams to follow, kiddies; so, stay tuned.!

| Oh, yeah!
Just lowered the price on my CL add to $3,999 and emailed a couple of earlier inquiries to alert them to the price drop re: need to sell because a new boat is moving into the slip.
tHere's a really good video on youtube of a boat called Elizabeth Ann. If you search youtube for "becoming Elizabth Ann" its a restoration of a Catalina 27, similar to the one I'm after. Also, that family and the boat was featured fairly recently in Good Old Boat magazine.
