I do not know if this will load for non-members, but it was a gentleman that purchased Desert Star, a CM30.

Here, it says he was fulfilling a life long dream. His dream was short lived.

I saw other posts on the net where they met with Mark, and was cleaning it in their driveway. Personal stuff that lets people see inside other peoples lives. I gather the wife did not cotton to sailing, so the dream faded.

You know what, my wife is not real big on sailing, but I would xnay my wife before I would let sailing go (again) I love my thorn in the flesh, but I love the peace and quiet sailing affords. Show me a wife that gives off peace and quiet! lol

I am not sure what all happened last summer, but it all rereads rather sad.

PostSubject: I know their story. It was all good.   Mon Apr 23, 2012 10:55 am

They were together excited about their new boat/adventure.
They got a slip.
She sailed with the family a couple of times, once in a pretty hard blow...scared the dickens out of her.
Ray was a trooper understanding her fears.
They once lived for years in a home-built cabin in Alaska, so they like to do adventures together.
They have had many adventures together.
His wife, Jackie, is a nice lady, too!
I admired Ray for changing gears, selling the boat, and looking at RVs for them to travel in...and they have.
My wife likes sailing, but is not 1/10th the nut that I am. But, if she decided she was no longer interested in sailing, I'd sell my new Catalina in a second.
My wife and I have been married 31 years; she is my best friend, the best person I've known in my life. We do things as a partnership.
She likes to say that I am the dreamer and she is the dream squasher--the pragmatic one. Works for me. Ssomebody's got to be the adult in the family. :-)
She's followed me in every adventure in life, every sport, every fishing expedition, entrepeneur start up, 13 years working together in our own company, raising 2 terrific boys, and took care of me through my cancer, surgeries, and radiation.
If she said sell the boat, I'd say, you bet...what shall we do next, my friend? Really!
But that's just my situation. So, I totally understnd Ray's response to his wife.
I count myself pretty lucky.
Mark

I have done the camper, my wife hates traveling any distance away. The fool thing is nicer than our house, but she acts like I want to pull teeth with vice grips to get her to go anywhere. When she does go, everything we own gets packed. Takes her days to pack, and days to unpack. All that makes her grumpy, so now I hate camping.

We are camp hosts at our state lake where we slip our boat, that is the month of August. That I hope is a good time for all. If she hates it, it is a 30 minute trip home for anyone homesick.

My wife and I are protective of one another, but not school kids dumb struck in love. More like we are relatives. I think she is my mother, and she thinks I am her father. lol

So who ended up with Desert Star? I find that whole slice of Clipper Marine history to be interesting, yet sad for the guy that dreamed of sailing.

If my wife ends up not sailing much, my business keeps me in contact with lots of college kids that would love to crew / hitchhike on a sailboat. I will not be lonely, unless I choose to be.

I wish them all the best in their travels.

Come to think of it I owe Ray a few pounds of cheese. He sent me some great info on the Sea of Cortez and I wanted to send some excellent Wisconsin cheese in return.

I missed the Wisconsin cheese when we went north to purchase the 32 sloop.

I have no idea how you could miss the cheese. Typically out-of-staters are stopped at the border and force fed samples!!
