I asked this question over at MacGregor Sailors / owners ( I get em mixed up) and it jumped up to a huge volume of responses. So maybe this would be a good first question to break the ice.

Gate Hasps, on exotic expensive sailboats. Sailboats that sail all over the world, to lavish ports of call, with the security any third grader with a bicycle relies on to protect his walmart special.

Really, gate Hasps on a sailboat? I find that amazing. At first, I figured it was just Roger MacGregor that was of a mindset to mingle cheap with exotic, but I see it on very nice sailboats costing as much as four bedroom houses in good neighborhoods.

Frankly, I hated mine. Yanked it off first thing and replaced it with two dead bolts.

You guys ever look cross eyed at that gate latch locking your sailboat? How do you lock up to sleep aboard? You just assume because it is a boat, you can sleep ok wide open to a break in (walk in) while you sleep?

One sail costs about a grand for some of them, you store your sails on the other side of a 3 dollar padlock?

Give us your feelings on this. Sad
