The accident happened at dusk. I drunken power boater, hit a 25' Catalina at full throttle, hitting the sailboat so hard, the top deck came loose at the seam under the rub rail, and split into two pieces, like taking the lid off a peanut butter jar.
The Catalina had just been purchased last fall, and was put into the lake this weekend for the first time this season.
The owners of the boat, and several passengers were injured with injuries ranging from a broken nose, to broken back in three places, and lots of cuts and scrapes.
I will be visiting the hospital along with my wife to visit the injured.
The drunken boater was arrested, and charged with DUI of a boat. He has a previous DUI conviction in his car.
The powerboat belongs to the DUI guys father. Witnesses say the boy had been warned that day to slow down and stay away from other boats.
No images of the sailboat are published at this time.
