I almost fell asleep in the starboard side aft-birth tonight while parked in my driveway. Yes I was on the trailer, but listing to all the rigging lightly bang off the mast. Embarassed Well, it was hypnotic in my opinion. The wind was snappy and the crescent moon low on the starboard horizon. I want to see more is that greedy?

I will sail tomorrow if the wind calms to my skill level*. I am betting that my local weather man is wrong again, fingers crossed.

*skill level is that of a guy that took a sail boating class and sailed for 3 hours.

That's great!! Heck my wife and I have been living aboard, in the driveway, all week. Laughing

Came back for graduations and as the house is rented to one son's family we are staying on the Clipper. Kind of like having a cabin up north, next to our cabin up north. Listening to the rain pelt the deck now, kinda cool.

Best of luck on sailing tomarrow. Expect a trip report of coarse.....

So my weekend sail went spectacular. My wife, 2 year old son and I went to lake Pend Oreille in Idaho and sailed for 2 days and nights. It was our first sail on our first sailboat and we made all the mistakes yet did it all with smiles.

We had light winds the first day so we pulled out our 150% Genoa. That baby filled up with air and we moved at a good clip. It was amazing how we could just go anywhere without the motor.

The second day early morning the wind was much stronger ~10 MPH pinning us to the slip. After a cunning plan we motored out of the slip and hoisted the main only. That allowed us to judge the wind and the boat while being cautious. Soon we hoisted the jib and made even better speed.

The only horror in the trip came when we needed to trailer the boat. We took forever and I got the keel stuck. Long story short we learned a lot of good and some bad stuff.

Sounds great Floody!! Cool

Always lots to learn on the maiden voyage. Sounds like you took it all in stride and had a blast.

Hope you get many more opportunities this season. Keep us posted and take some pics too.

Thank you

We had a great time and are now looking at another trip on the 4th. I just got to get this keel fixed and get the boat on the trailer correctly. Currently it wants tip the trailer until the aft hits the ground.

Any idea on how to keep the keel from banging while underway? After a few small swells from motor boats i could hear the keel banging into the hull.

Thanks Gary.

Next trips planed.

1. the Coeur d'alene 4th of July sailboat parade in Idaho, details below. We need to get a few dozen or so flags to fly on our sailboat for the parade.

2. Sail to the San Juan Islands. We need a ton of gear to make this trip but thats half the fun.

3. The Wolf Lodge Express - just after the sun sets over Lake Coeur d’Alene the Wolf Lodge Express gathers steam in an eastern bay and hurtles west across the water. The Express—a land breeze that forms when the land cools in the evenings, the warm lake water pulls the breeze in from the east. It is very predictable, and a fun time to sail.

I will be working on my Keel issue this weekend and replacing all my turnbuckles as well as a few other details. I have to install a new compass, and a VHF radio. Thankfully all the years in electronics engineering school will pay off and Ill be doing something that comes second nature to me, electronics.

Here is a cool picture I took while sailing Lake Pend Oreille last weekend.
