I replaced the stanchions that were on Sugar Bee with a set of double safety line ones, that came with my sloop. I like them better, and I had them, so why not switch them? Wallace had already removed them from the sloop, so half the work was done for me.

The second row of safety line, I have replaced with solar LED rope light. Should make my boat stand out from the crowd just a little more now.

Did starboard side today, port side Saturday.

Interesting. Are they a complete unit? Self-contained I mean?

This is one of those deals where you enjoy it while it lasts. At fifteen bucks a pop the long term quality is most likely out to lunch. We will see. The rechargeable batteries could get replaced with better ones. I will do that once these quit charging.

So you pulled the double line stanchions off the sloop??

Gone only has singles. Was it an option? Your sloop is younger no? Maybe it was standard and they switched to single life lines to save money?

The stanschons were removed by Wallace before I purchased the dark blue hull Sloop. Why did he remove them? I have no idea. He said it was because they were leaking. However, it is not hard to remove, clean, place sealant back, and rebolt. Easier than sealing up the holes with bondo crap that does not match the gelcoat.

Why did it have double lifelines? Not sure. I do rather fancy them, makes my humble little 8' beam creature seem just a little larger now, nestled up to their 12' beams.

lol!

Project almost done. Top safety cable still good but in places the plastic covering looks weathered. It is also skinny and not comfortable to lean hard against. Solution? Cover it. Yes I know several racing bla bla blas do not allow the covering of safety lines. Big deal , like I got into this dock hobby to race? Lol

I found the largest tubing that would fit through my stanchoes. It is used to get water to ice makers. Milky white in color. Hope it holds up to uv sunlight for years. We will see. Looks like a million bucks today. Perfect match for the mid section rope light safety line that is also milky white. In the daylight they should match and at night I will have the bell of the ball.

Be careful w/ those old covered cables. Any crack, nick, hole has let in/trapped moisture. The cover then hides the danger of years of oxidation. They are no longer "safety lines".

Best solution I have seen and will be doing is replacing w/ open wire rope. Go w/ the diameter that just fits your stanchions for comfort if you like. Hope to never use them but if I do......

I know better, but the alure of making the good ugly cable work, got the best of me. My lake is small enough, I can swim to any shore. lol

I was going to mention that you should be fine for how your sailing/ where you are at. Just a safety reminder of a sometimes hidden potential danger.

I think the lights are going to look cool. Plus I am interested to see how they hold up. Could be some inexpensive lighting options for evenings in the cockpit and handy for moving around on deck at night.

These lights are very delicate. One string I am on the third one already. lol

Have my eyes out for a more heavy duty set.
