Okay! i just passed a free Clipper marine 21 on my way home from the vet.
It was full of water, sounds bad but that means it holds water! lol so it should keep water from getting in! The main sail has 2 small holes, but i know of a sail shop in connecticut that will fix it quick! The interior needs to be stripped down to the fiber glass and resealed! So heres where i ask is it worth me adding a head? and giving it modern gps and radar?

Some background on myself: Im 17 a high school senior in North Carolina.
Im going to college in penn. Ive restored Sail boats ever since i was little.....Over the last few years my father and i have grown to dislike each other. Its upsetting to me but he will come around. ( Note : he does not want me to go into the coast guard he is an army guy.... ) This is my first solo project so i will keep you updated! Any tips feel free to leave them.

GPS and radar are great options depending on how far you intend on taking your boat offshore. I think the clippers are a little light weight to go too far so I have not felt the need for such amenities but I hear a few have braved some open water and sailed into the Pacific on a 26.

I would sail it around for a while and see how she feels. Then make those decisions after you get a feel for her.

Welcome!

Free sailboat is a wonderful price.

Same price I gave for mine, but he was firm on four grand for the trailer! Lol

Keep us updated. Good people here to help advise you.

Thanks guys! in my past restores we have added weight to the bottom of the boat. We also add foam to keep it Buoyant. I have a lake right down the road from me where dad and i use to check boats for leaks and test different amount of weight. The key i have learned is to not add too much or the sails have trouble moving the boat in lighter winds. Laughing
This website is very helpful in my research. My plan is to continue to compile photos of a few different 21s. Over the next few months i plan to budget out the project and save a little money between now and spring. i hope to finish the project by the end of june!
The boat will be taking a trip with me later this year to Connecticut. I have family up there and know a few people who own fiberglass shops and sail shops in that area!

This is my first clipper i have ever done! so im hoping that it goes well! bounce

Also Gary the man wanted to sell the trailer too me but because i was so young he gave it too me. The only had part is getting the title that he lost. I have gotten some papers from the state that he had to fill out. Im waiting on the states approval for the title for the boat and trailer.
