outboard HP for cm26

what would be the best size outboard & brand for my cm 26,i was looking at tohatsu they seem to be priced decent.has any one had any dealings with coleman they are much cheaper but i think they might not be very good.

Our Seacraft26 moves nicely powered by an four stroke Honda 8 hp.

As for best overall brand, probably depends on personal favorites and local dependable dealers.

Sailing club here purchased a dozen Tohatsu 5hp to push their Catalina 22s and are happy w/ them after 6 months of service. We bought a new Suzuki 2.5 for our dingy and love it for its weight to torque ratio. I am sure the bigger HP models are just as nice. Also have an older 5hp Merc for when we want to take the dingy for a few miles fishing.

I'm using a 8 HP 2 stroke Mercury. Added a high thrust prop and charging coil/ regulator. Works just fine.

thanks for the replies what shaft lenght do you recommend for a cm 26,i measured it at 15" but i think a 20" might be better less chance of it coming out of water

I'm running the long shaft 20" and in heavy chop it still pops out of the water occasionally. My suggestion is the longer the better. If you can find an extra long shaft so much the better. Some of the unit marketed as Sailmaster etc. were extra long for just such duty.

I love the way the designer of this sailboat knew an outboard would be needed, where the Mac 25 of the same era, has an outboard arrangement that looks like after completion, they noticed someone forgot to design in an outboard.



Funny how one company with a superior product, is gone, and the other continues on till this day. Just shows the power of one dishonest employee.
