No one has, but a company in the 70's working with Crealock built about a dozen of something called a Harstad 31 from the same deck and hull molds, adding a doghouse, and about 3000 pounds of displacement (weight) somewhere in the boat. I believe this has a hull about an inch thick, where the CM32 has a hull about a 1/2" thick.

Trailer weight of this unit is about 11,000 pounds including gear.

How cool would it be to add the doghouse area to a Clipper Marine 32 Aft Cabin?

I think it would be pretty sweet. Over 7' of headroom in the cabin would be a plus!

In order to properly do this, one would need an original cabin top to cut below the side windows, and place on top of the existing cabin.

Hey, I just happen to have an extra!

Something to think about. I even have a slave steering system that I could add a second steering position in the doghouse.

Definitely interesting!! Roomy and dry when the weather kicks up.

You could do it w/out too much trouble seeing as you have the needed cabin top. It's just some cuttin-n-glassin.

And if you want to add ballast well just take that extra keel and turn Sugar Bee into the first CM32 Bilge keeler. Very Happy

Yesterday I learned for the first time the configuration was called a light displacment cruiser - racer. I like heeling (wife hates it) and I like going fast, so while I thought of trading keels for the extra weight, think I will leave that part alone.

While I resist the idea of cutting on my Sugar Bee, the idea of a larger companion way and 7' + headroom is appealing. The finish work to make it all look good would be a challenge for me.

These boats already have a substantial freeboard, and adding a doughouse is going to add to that. My sailboat does not have the 20hp engine of the Harstad 31.

Lots to think about.

I think it best to keep everything about this machine that makes it best for racing and improve upon that where possible. Keep the weight down, little more masts, little more sails, little more length, glass the bottom smooth.

I can always keep my eyes open for a Harstad 31 for sale.

I hear ya on the finish glass work. While I am OK at structural stuff I have never given anything a gel coat finish like factory.

Finding the time to do is another issue.

Just doing the masts the way you want them should be an interesting mod and one that should be very rewarding in terms of fun factor. Cool

Mast work will be easy. The SS rigging cables are getting old and it would be prudent to change it anyway, though they passed the survey. At ten years it should go, mine is past that with time on saltwater.

Thinking about making the SS rigging myself. Ordering the tools.

I dont need windows, but more air and more headroom would be a plus. Thinking about adding a pop up top.
