| Just want to say "Hi" and so happy to find all of you! I started sailing 6 years ago when a friend asked me to be "rail meat" in a thursday night Beer can race.... I told him I didn't remember anything about sailing since I had only sailed on a small sailboat that my wife and I had bought about 25 years earlier and had no other sailing friends so we only learned on our own and only kept the boat about a year... well,. I did go out with him, came home and told my wife we were selling our jet boat and our jet skis and had to find a sailboat! We bought a Newport 28' and sailed it for one season and came in 2nd in a 20mi. race in the "cruiser fleet"! At the end of the season we decided to enter the reggatta and learned that we were not ready to be competitive around the buoys! Thus the idea of finding a "race boat"! We bought a damaged J-24, fixed it up and raced that the past several years,.. selling the newport because our seasons are so short,.. and our races schedule so full that there was little time for cruising. That was nearly 3 years ago. Last spring we decided that we liked sailing in other water after going to Mt. for 2 race weekends but did not like trailering the J-24 so we found a Clipper Marine 21 that was for sail and bought it for trailer sailing. We never put it in the water last year, did some work on it,.. and plan to finish making it beautiful and sailing it some this year. We also bought the newport back from the family that we sold it to 3 years ago. Yea,... we do have more sailboats than we need, but plan to do more sailing on the CM21 and the newport and less racing on the J-24 this year. We shall see where this takes us! We Love being out on the water for almost any excuse! |
