First topic message reminder :
After several months of trading occasional emails, often times a month apart, today I shook hands (via telephone) with Hal to purchase his Clipper Marine 32 Ketch and six wheel trailer, in California.
Thank You Hal, I will take good care of her, and put her to good use.

There's a GPS tracking device on the truck? Isn't technology fun.
Oh, no GPS tracking, he's just calling you from time to time?

He has not been paid. No boat, no payment. I hope that keeps him sober while on the road.

Driver declaires he has his family, (wife and at least one child) on the trip, and he wants to know if he can have the day off while in Vegas?
Not being a jerk (some would argue that) I said sure.
Ones mind could explode with all the what ifs that could happen, or be happening.
Odds of me ever seeing this boat in my drive way? (Vegas odds) 20%

I can't blame a guy for wanting to see some sights along the way...but....
1- It's Vegas, unless they're over 21 what do kids do? 2- He's on the job. Is he selling the truck in Nebraska and flying home?! Stop on the way back and see the sights.
Our kids all wanted to see Vegas when we used to go. We told them there was nothing for them to do there because they were under age. Never felt guilty for not taking them as we never saw anything there for them. Did we miss something?
Anyway I'm betting the boat gets to your driveway but not before Monday. Second bet- all the stainless is stripped.

The survey says all the rigging is there. Nothing reported missing except a exhaust piece.
Vegas does have a family side. In fact, some of the hotels cater to families, with attractions and things to do. One of the hotels has thrill rides on the top of the building

I am sure the rigging will be fine. I was just having fun and thinking about the show Pawn Stars in Vegas. Like the dude pawns your stainless to layover in Vegas.
No video for me but I'll take your word for it. Still don't feel guilty bout leaving the kids home when we went. Only place we did go w/out them and we enjoyed ourselves even though we don't really gamble. Just don't see it as a "family" town.

I to have a Vegas story. Policeman friend of mine, used to be married to a travel agent. Every year she booked a charter flight to Vegas, and invited along people from the business community, and her clients. Fare was low, included hotel, some meals.
Every year we turned them down.
One year, he said he would take me all over to see stuff not gambling related. Hover dam, bunch of stuff. That sounded more interesting. We went.
I was told to find a slot in the lobby, he would find me, and off we would go.
First day, played a dollar slot 12 hours. Bum never showed. I was up two grand, so I was not really pissed, but a little miffed.
Second day, he apologized, same thing, go to the slots, I will find you. 13 hours later, I gave up. Lost 700 bucks the second day. Third day, and forth day, I was sick and stayed in my hotel room.
One guy on the flight won $29,000 and the $300 I won (payed for the weekend) were the only winners on a plane full of people. That is how they can afford to keep all the lights on.

Update Evening 04-05-2012
Driver woke up in Vegas, after taking a day+ off to hang with family. Maybe I will name the boat """Vegas Strip"""
At 8am, he discovers he has a flat tire. Not the flat tire he had in LA, this time it is a different tire. He removes the tire and takes it to service station where they discover a tiny little patch that was leaking in a tube (things still have tubes???) . Station removed patch, re-patched the hole with a larger patch, and the tire, full of air, was returned to the trailer. Maybe I will name the boat """2 Flats & 4 To Go"""
At 11am my time, off the caravan and driver, and family of five goes off down the road pulling my 32 foot long sailboat.
By 10pm my time, they are apx two hours outside Grand Junction Colorado, apx the half way point in the trip. They are in a place called Selina Utah purchasing diesel fuel. Driver (Alek) says today was windy, but the winds were at their back, to which he was grateful.
Tomorrow will find them in the mountains. Heavens.
Hopefully, all will go well.
I am a nervous wreck. I do not do well just sitting on the sidelines while others are involved in the mission.

04-06-2012 Noon: Trucker has made it past Grand Junction. Still on I-70 headed to I-80. Good news, all the tires continue to hold air. Thought it was going to be a flat a day there for a while.
Trucker says it is still windy, tail winds blowing with him, which would seem to be a good thing.

It does take special tools to stand a boat up like this, but they sure do take up less space in the dry docks.

Update 4-06-2012 8:30PM
Driver looses water pump on truck east of Vail CO. He does not call me, he unhooks from Trailer / sailboat, leaving it along I-70 in some scenic overlook designed for one car. He does not inform the Highway Patrol. An hour later, I call him and he informs me he is headed to Denver (limping along, putting water in engine as they go) to repair truck, and he will return the next day for trailer / sailboat.
I tell him to rent a truck, and go BACK NOW for my trailer / sailboat. He says he will. I call him back in ten minutes, and he says he is picking up a truck from a wife's relative in Denver, and going back tonight for the trailer / sailboat.
During all of this, I have the Highway Patrol looking for my trailer / sailboat, and they locate it at mile marker 187 just off of the highway on I-70 between Vail & Denver. I had them place a "No Tow Order " on the trailer / sailboat.
Driver called me at 8pm central time, and says he is headed back with a second truck (borrowed) from a in law, and he should be back at the truck in an hour and a half. I called the State Patrol, and advised them of the situation. The SP had given me the number of a towing company that could have towed, and used their impound lot, to rescue my boat. If my driver fails to get the boat picked up at that time, I will do that, have them tow it, and I strike out from here to Denver to pick up the trailer / sailboat myself. A ten hour drive.
I am beside myself, trying to stay calm.

I am going to sleeps couple hours then start driving towards Denver. 9 hours away if the highways and weather are good.

What was it you posted to Penny? Oh yeah, Pictures, my friend, pictures. (Modified, slightly) I got her? She is real pretty? Well, Hell, drop everything you're doing while retrieving her, hitching, sending your driver on his sad little way, and towing her home--and get us some pics! :-) Serioulsly, just comb over her, climb over her, wipe up the drool or you might slip--then get us some pics of your newest baby of the week.
Hey, find out who those punk kids are and make them an offer, to come out to the marina, work hard on the boat, be part of the restoratino and pics, and they'll earn the right to crew on her.
Update on Catalina 27: Wife knows I'm activley looking and have zeroed in on this one. She's seen the pics and thinks the boat is a beauty, but...she wants my truck and boat sold. I'm working on them. My truck is a 2001 Toyota Tundra extended cab, best truck I've owned 'til I repaced iot with a 2012 model. Its not eveon the market yet. Have a couple of things to do, then I'll list her on CL.
Only a few emails on the CM26--no serious inquiries. Patience!
So, the credit union will advise if they will lend on the Catalina at 2.75% tomorrow. The sailboat shop is closed Mondays and Tuesday. If she's still available on Wednesday, I'll make a literally-laid-out-on-the-table cash offer of $13,000 on an asking price of $15.5k. No down payment, just cash spread out on the table. I'm nothing if not dramatic. I need to see her sails opened, hear her start up and the diesel running, see the 300 hours on the meter (I know, just 300 hours on this motor), and be assured of a complete operating systems walk-thru.
I have a name for my next sailboat...I will retire MT Nest as a name on my last 2 sailboats and name my next one, hoperfully this Catalina 27 as...

Good wishes on the boat purchase. 2.75 % ??
That is almost like them paying you!
I do not do ladders. I have a scissor lift at home and two at my business, so I will get on / in her later today. My wife stuck her head in her and said she stinks worse than the last one I bought.

That's why I'm going through the pains of their hoop jumping requirements. I keep my liquid cash for working on the boat, don't remove anything from our nest egg, and pay out so little and pay off early when I sell my boat and truck, that its worth the gamble to me. If it all works out, I borrow the money for next to nothing and get a nice boat at fair market value, sell my extra truck and extra boat. And, if she's gone by tomorrow or Wednesday when they open up again, I'll just do the same thing with another treasure boat. But I really am excited about this one at the moment. Pins and needles!
If I get this boat this week, I can't get out on her until Friday or Sunday. Lots of work to do this week, family plans on Saturday. Then, I am sponsoring/hosting a hugely expensive dinner mixer party for our clients at our rock yard the following Wednesday night. Clean up on Thursday then I'll likely take a week or so off to live aboard the boat for a few days then back home to start a large list of honey'do's for our youngest son's upcoming wedding--we're hosting the rehearsal dinner in our garden, pool area, and cantina.
Speaking of our Cantina, I have posted a phot I took this fine Easter morning; love sunday mornings in our Cantina; the sun shines brightly and just lights up the colors. Note my new model sailboat toy on the right corner of the bar in the second photo.

Very nice Cantina Mark!!
It's great to have your own bar. It's like a temple almost, a refuge from the crazy world.
We built a 10'x12' log cabin bar, not big but nice place to hang out. Even has the swinging doors, full length mirror behind bar, always open. Only bar in Crawford county where you can get a shot of Cabo at 0500 while smoking a cigar, probably the whole state. You can also step outside and shoot bottles on the hill.
Only two rules; no phones and no fighting.
One winter afternoon while I was played off I was sitting alone having a beer. I started thinking about how they say that drinking alone is a sign off alcoholism. But then I decided that if you own your own bar there are bound to be times when you have a drink w/ just your dog.
Love to sit in there and listen to Sammy Hagar's version of "I love this bar". Now I miss my bar......

I know, right? I don't drink a drop of alcohol. I thik I have an alergy to it 'cuz it used to make me throw up. :-) Also, I am a cancer survivor (2 surgeries, radiation) so, much as I love cigars, I have sworn them off, too. I highly recommend the radiation for weight loss...of course, now I'm heavier again, but losing it through diet and exercise again.
Only vices I got left are cussing and sailing. Think I'll go take my friggin' CM26 for a spin. :-)
But the cantina is a great room in the house, my favorite place after the boat or marina.
I swept the cantina floor with a broom and rust/brick-colored concrete stain to get that work look. Looks great in real life.
Again, you are all welcome anytime you find yourself in the valley of the sun.
And, we listen to Sammy Haga and Toby Keith versions of I love this bar in the cantina.
I think Ev and I were separated at birth. I want to go to Key Largo!!! Just too many things going on...life gets in the way sometimes...not for Gary, but for many of the rest of us. :-)

Update 4/8/2012 9pm
Home and the ketch is in the driveway alongside the 32 sloop trailer.
Not an east few months getting this boat. If this had been a chess game I feel like I just played fifteen grand masters all at once.
Yesterday we crossed Nebraska and Colorado to Denver in nine hours. Flying for me as I like to poke along and hit sights as I go along.
Picked up the boat and by the time we stopped we made it to the Colorado border to sleep.
Today I spent all day crossing Nebraska as is my usual mode of transportation. Slooooow.
We spent an hour in a Walmart parking lot figuring out what color the boat is.

Color is a deep blue stripe below the rub rail and a robin egg blue between there and the waterline.
Pictures showed it white, but the white was a thick Chalk of oxydation
So far I have nothing negative to report about the boat or contents.
Much to examine as we commence doing an inventory and cleaning everything
