| Greetings!
I just bought a CM21, hull number 179. Sailable, but will need some work. Cracks in the gel coat, interior needs paint, etc. The usual stuff for an old boat.
One oddity is that the keel lock pin holes were fiberglassed over, so the keel cannot be locked in the lowered position. I've heard this can be a hazard in a knockdown situation. Any thoughts on this for this particular boat?
Another oddity is a loose bow hoop, that the winch cable hooks to for securing to the trailer. I can't reach the nuts on the inside, the front bulkhead is too close to the deck to get an arm in there, and there's a foam block in the way too. I'm assuming I'll have to cut the bulkhead down a bit, and hope I can reach around the foam, but would love to hear if there's an easier approach.
Many thanks, Eric | |

| I have a 26 but I'll do my best...
Try going in through the cowl vent at the bow. You should be able to remove the cowl and reach your arm in that way.
Regarding the locking pin, that is a subject that many of us are divided on. The previous owner of my boat also glassed them over to prevent leaks. I have not had any issues with it other than an occasional broken cable. I keep the cable tight to prevent the keel from smashing into the front of the boat when I get into chop.
Good luck! | |

| There's no cowl vent, I guess the 21 is too small of a boat. Thanks for the idea. | |

| Many of the retractable keels have that glassed over. Should be OK that way, one less thing to leak.

| Eric, I have a flush deck 21, and my bow eye is quite easy to get to. There is a partial bulkhead in the bow that was removed on mine to give added storage and as the photos show the bow eye is right there. Notice in picture 1 the bulkhead is just to left laying on the shelf. Hope this helps. Russ | |

| Thanks. I will have to cut my bulkhead down a bit. There's a floatation block in there which I'll leave, though a bit of extra storage wouldn't hurt, because I like positive floatation...not that I want to test it | |
