| I have a CM 26 which the interior is simply trashed. I am trying to determine the best materials for the cabinets - Okume, Mahagony panels, birch. Has anyone done any major work in this area for suggestrions? Okume get to be very expensive over 6mm, Mahaogany is hard to find and Birch might not hold up depending on the other layers & glue - unless It's lamanated & epoxy coated interior.
Any ideas? Thanks,Mike

| Hello Mike, I have a flush deck 21. It does not have much in the way of cabinets, but I am using cedar. A few reasons, and the died in the wool teak and mahogany people may not agree, but it is cheap, impervious to mold and rot, easy to work, and smells good. Look around at the number of cedar fences that have been in the ground for years. You can get it any where. Look at the board fence supplies and Lowes, and Home Depot. It will take glue. I use epoxy or Gorilla. They both seem to work. The grain is the biggest problem. It likes to leave nasty splinters. A good sanding and seal coat will cure this. Good luck. I am redoing mine after stripping it. Wow fiberglass over wet wood and dry rot. What fun. Russ | |

| It looks like you have installed a refer, how much power does it draw? Did you have to add to the battery bank and is it 12 volt, or do you have an inverter? | |

| I never metered it out to see how much current it draws. It runs on 12 volts DC and must have a very low current draw because it will run along with my music system and marine radio for several days. I have what I think is the stock set up of two batteries with a selector switch which allows me to switch between battery #1 or battery #2 or both at the same time. I have a little hand held inverter just for grins if I ever have the need for 110VAC. My solar cell is connected to a regulator which allows for charging without overcharging the batteries. The regulator is terminated with large clips which allows me to clip onto either battery. I don't have enough current to charge both batteries at once but so far, cycling between batteries with the load and the charger hasn't presented a problem - I've been able to keep both batteries topped off. terry s | |

| How much do you charge Terry? You can come out to Everett and redo mine. | |

| I would love to know the details on your fridge. I want to install one myself.
Any chance you would share the brand and where you got it. Any info would be great.
Thanks. | |

| Send me the tickets - give me a place to sleep overnite and feed me and I'll do it for free!!! It's an Igloo brand, 12 volt cooler - they sell them at Walmart for $88.00 here in my neck of the woods. I actually bought mine on eBay for $60.00 (shipping included). It's designed to be used in either configuration - either as I have it mounted standing up or laying down like a conventional cooler. There's also an adjustable shelf. It requires no ice, just 12 volts DC. There's a thermocouple and a fan inside - the thermocouple produces cold and the fan blows across it to circulate it throughout the interior of the cooler. It has a fairly low current draw - my 1.5 watt solar cell will keep whichever battery I have 'turned on' running the cooler, marine radio and entertainment CD/radio, fully charged. When I rebuilt the cabinets I made a template from cardboard that fit the cooler and transferred it to the new - improved cabinet. The cooler that came with my boat was in pretty nasty shape and I didn't want to have to fool around with ice and the discharge hose from the old cooler to the bilge area. The new cooler doesn't produce any excess moisture and keeps the liquid adult refreshment a nice 40 degrees on a hot summer day. The model number is 403785 by Igloo and it's 40 quarts in size. Don't hesitate to ask any other questions!! terry s | |

| One last question about the cooler. I am getting ready to order one and would like to know how you mounted it. Is there a mounting kit to keep it from sliding out or did you fashion something? | |

| I cut the opening of the cabinet to fit the curvature of the cooler and then attached a piece of aluminum angle about two inches long to all four sides of the cooler. I used self tapping stainless steel screws to go into the cooler about 3/4" and then attached the angles to the inside of the cabinet using shorter screws.
I then used some 1/4 round vinyl prefinished trim (Available at your local, friendly Home Depot store) to trim out around the front of the fridge. It's held up very well as I trailer the boat about 50 miles one way each time I take her out and the roads here in southern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland are not the smoothest!!
Just don't use screws too long so you go into the cooler or thru the front of your cabinets!!! I hope to see some photos of your finished product! terry s

| i am gonna be redoing mine soon, I am adding cabinet frames and more counter top. i will be skinning my cabinets with 1/4 inch tigerwood and gonna spray polyester over all of it. Heavy build and hard as rock when done. Prior owner installed a standard 120 volt small frig between the galley and the storage closet on top of the starboard settie. Have not decided if we are gonna keep the larger frig or not. But after i get my motor swap done i will have a 200 amp 48volt battery bank . | |

| I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the info.
My wife and I spend a lot of time on the boat every summer and take several weekend and extended weekend trips. This will help us to not rely on finding ice wherever we go.
