| My CM21 one of the older version - not sure which one but good fun. I think there is HIN I will check tonight. I have 2 kids (5 and 3) and they like the boat as well. I have to make few improvements to make it easier to sail.
First any one know the weight of the Clipper 21?? I got the winch (up to 1500kg) Old one line is bit old.
Thinking to get 15-18hp outboard I have 8HP Yamaha 29kg. Thinking to get bigger outboard. Two weeks ago I tried my friends Johnson 25hp but max speed I go 17km on my gps. 25hp outboard is to much weight for this kind construction. 25hp Johnson is (I think 55kg) . Some times will be useful to have more power when is strong current in the channels in emergency. Anyone have 15-18hp outboard on CM21?? I worry about mounting on the back.
Also anyone know I to remove the keel pin on CM21?? Thanks for help.

| I have the flush deck CM21. I think the weight of the boat empty is about 1650 pounds. The motor recommended by Clipper is a 6 HP. Some of the Clippers have balanced keels and the pin comes out easy. The keel will hang on the cable the raises and lowers it. If you don't have the balanced keel than you need to support the keel with blocks and jacks so it doesn't fall to get the pin out. Be very careful there the keel weighs 480 pounds and is shaped so it is heavier at the base. Is the picture your Clipper? What type of roller furling do you have on the jib? I am thinking about making one for mine. Russ | |

| I almost started on a roller furling for my 26 but my rigger laughed at my inquiry. He asked, "Why, because your head sail is so hard to pull up?" I agreed with him that the expense was not worth it for relieving me of very little effort to begin with.
Wlodek,
I wouldn't exceed the 6hp rating for the boat. You could run into all kinds of problems like stressing your transom and possibly swamping your boat.
I boat on a river that has current. On one trip in particular, I barely beat the flood tide and was nearly washed out to sea but I did beat it. From that experience, I learned to always have an anchor ready when I anticipate running into current. That way I can toss it out if I am not making way.
Good luck. | |

| Russ Thanks for info. 1650 pounds is around 850kg and my new winch can take up to 1500kg I got my Clipper 21 in 2005. I painted the hull so from outside looks like new boat. I have to do some work inside. Recommended 6hp is fine but we have high tide in Brisbane QLD Australia and the current on outgoing or incoming tides are very strong. On the lakes 8hp is more then you need. We have currents up to 5 knots then I have problems motoring. Not sure what is balanced keel? I had to change my keel winch line before. I moved my clipper on tires from my trailer in my backyard so the keel can come down. I have lot's of rust on my keel and I do not think this keel is 480 pounds any more. Thinking about replacing with new one (galvanize steel) but I do not know how to remove main pin?? From the bottom or from inside?? or how do you change keel? What is the flush deck ?? This is my clipper on the photo roller furling was there when I got the boat. Very handy Photo of my Clipper - Inspiration Diggs I agree with the you I have two anchors on my boat one on the front and one on the back Wlodek | |

| Wlodek, I am not sure how you would tell if it is balanced or not. I was not sure so when I had the boat jacked up and was refinishing the keel I started to remove the pin and found it slid right out. The only thing supporting the keel was the cable. I guess the way to find out is put the weight of the keel on the cable and if the bolt comes out with no resistance yours is balanced. If not get a jack and some supports under it. As far as getting a galvanized one made. I don't think you could get the weight or the shape. It would cost more than the boat. I would recommend a good sanding or sand blasting and then epoxy putty to smooth it and then a good paint job. Cheaper and even with lots of rust and pitting I would bet that you have only lost a few pounds. The flush deck is the same hull but no raised cabin area, and of course no cabin to speak of below deck or a pot top either. The pin is removed from the trunk inside the boat. It is a 3/8 or 1/2 inch bolt with rubber washers behind the head and nut. Sometimes people glass over the thing so if you don't see it feel around for a bump or maybe use a magnet to locate the thing. It is towards the front of the keel trunk and maybe a foot down from the top of the trunk. Good luck with it. They are a full time project. I am redoing the inside of mine. It was totally dry rotted inside so I have gutted it and redoing everything in molded or cut to fit foam and fiberglass. That will end any rot and easy to clean. Russ | |

| Thanks for useful info. I have to locate the keel pin or find out how to remove the keel. I did not have time to get on the boat this morning. Also I have to check the price of new keel. My old keel is just piece of steel cut to the shape. Any one have picture of they keel?? | |

| I think there is an article or two on this site that has a diagram of the keel. I have one, but can't seem to get it to upload. A company in Seattle, Washington called Gerhard Engineering has a plan for one with the dimensions. Your keel is probably not anywhere close to the 480 pound mark unless it is about 2 inches thick or more. Good luck. | |

| Thanks refired1 my keel is only 12mm thick - 1/5 of the size what should be. We do only relaxing sailing which is fine for the moment. I work as engineer and I design lots of different metal things so I will find someone that will cut keel for me and I the company that will galvanize as well. I will never go to Marine campany - at least in Brisbane you pay 5 times more.
My brother gave me different idea to modified my kell. He is talking about puting lead on the side of my old keel and fiberglass on the top to seal and make smoothe.
Also found some pictures of the CM21 flush deck: Clipper 21 inside My clipper 21 is different inside - inside keel (holder curb) is much smaller half the height. Will do some photos of and will post them over weekend. Wlodek | |

| If yours was built in Queensland by Stoddard Bros. Marine, those clippers were sold with 9.9 HP motors. These boats had a molded fiberglass interior. Check the posts here, I posted a magazine review of the Australian built Clippers from 1975. | |
