Yes, FUN is what it's all about. Though we haven't yet sailed our CM yet I can't help but believe that when we do it will be just that. Fun.
Many of the comments I have read about our CM are the same types of comments I hear about a few of today's popular sailboats. Thin hulls that flex too much? I hear the same thing about Beneteaus, nicknamed Bendytoys. We have sailed on a Beneteau 40 on Lake Mich sometimes in 4-6 footers and had nothing but FUN!!
Wide ass? Yep, we've got it and I've noticed a recent trend in sterns getting wider.
They say our boat has a small sail area for her size. However she is also light compared to her size. Hull speed is hull speed, correct me if I'm wrong. If the more popular boats are so well canvased why fly huge spinnakers? We have sailed aboard a beautiful Hans Christian that was ready to sail the world. But her world was 95% bay that rarely produced enough wind to fully appreciate her. It felt like being on my stud horse in the pasture. Or my old Camaro on most roads. Plenty of muscle and nowhere to flex.
At this point I think my desire to get Gone in the water is 50% joy of having our own boat in the water and 50% just to take her out and see what she can do. Maybe she will sail like a pig and we will regret the money spent. Bottom line it wasn't that much anyway.
In life fun=$ all too often. Hopefully our CM proves to have a good fun to dollar ratio.
Rant over, climbing down, have a fun day, Ev
