| It is described as needing cleaning, and I think it is a CM30 MKI (older) | |

| I could still use a therapist over that deal. Lol
It all turned out great, could not have turned out better, but it was a very stressful time trying to get a big CM.
I delt with four owners.
All a bit out to lunch in some way. Wallice was the most normal of the bunch, but his boat was out to lunch. Lol
Hal was having operations, one after another, and could not corespond for weeks at a time.
I hope to never ever again have such great dificulity obtaining anything i want to putchase. It was one long pain in the ass, that was for sure.
First boat, drove across country to loose my trailer and the guy gave the boat to someone else.
Now i am looking at another boat. My wife will kill me!

| I talked to Judy and we set a time for us to show up and take pictures. It promptly started snowing so we postponed it until the roads are better. I hope to get out there Saturday and get the pictures. | |

Here is a link to a bunch of pictures and descriptions. In short, The ship looks to be sound but neglected. A bunch of cleaning, some minor restoration in a few areas and she can be back on under sail. A motor refit was started but not completed. Someone who is willing to put in some work could have a nice solid sailor for not a lot of money.

| Looks pretty rough. I can see a water line inside the boat. Looks like the boat had about 8-10 inches of water in it for some time. | |

| This is a MkII with an Edson helm, inboard and a Fin keel. As CM 30'S go, this was a rare sailboat. Thank you Triticum for getting the pics for our site, and helping Judy.

| I would say, given the condition, and no trailer, this boat would make someone a viable project if the price were somewhere around the thank you very much, and a handshake. Any more than that, and the whole on the water you already will be taking on, will just be a larger hole. Any sign of sails? What condition are they in? Hopefully, they were not stored in the sailboat. I like the winter PVC frame Jim built, I will copy that for Sugar Bee next winter. | |

| " The sails have not been stored in the ship so they are in good condition."
" Pushing hard on the wood at the base of the seats and the cabinets shows that it is still firm and doesn't show signs of rot."
Sounds like aside from the engine, a good cleaning and some re-bedding of windows etc, would have her in sail able shape. Yes there are plenty of other things that need attention but they could wait.
If the engine is froze or needs to much I would pull it, rebuild or sell, toss a kicker on it for docking/channels and go sailing. I am not a fan of kickers on a boat this size but it's a quick, cheap way to get going.
The mast has an interesting shape. I don't think it is original though I have not seen other 30's. I'm betting it's a stronger than original replacement.

| That is an original CM mast. Looks to be the same one my ketch uses. Lighter duty than the 32 aft cockpit mast.
It looks to have a stern engine compartment. Maybe covered over on the bottom. That could be reopened up and used again. The Edson helm parts might get in the way.
Somebody will be busy a long time sailing this proper again.

| Never seen an octagonal mast before. I would be interested to find out how the strength ratio compares between that shape and an oval mast of same thickness. Not sure how the stern engine compartment was originally set up. Like an inboard/outboard? Would like to see pics of another 30 set up. Someone enlighten me please. | |

| Just noticed I do not have the drawing of the CM-32 aft cockpit mast at www.clipper-sailor.net. I had a page labeled as having both 30 & 32 masts, but no 32 aft cockpit in the page. Always something to do. lol Here is a drawing of the CM-30 mast. I think science has proven an egg shape to be about as strong as anything, but this has an egg shape to it with some corners. The engine well was completely enclosed, with an open-able lid on top, and a always opening to water at the bottom. The early versions were at the companionway, and the latter versions were at the stern. The stern version proved to be better at low speed control because the prop was so close to the rudder. The early versions had a big hole to the water, and the later ones had a smaller hole shaped like the engine and prop. I very much wish Sugar Bee had this over her Diesel engine. IMHO, this was the best drive unit for inland and coastal use where constant use of a larger engine was not required. | |

| Thanks for the info Gary.
Sounds like the later version was a nice set up. I think that would be my option for Jim's boat. Pull that Universal and go back to original. Wish I were closer to it.
