I am one of those guys that wonder about stuff. I wonder what a CM 32 would be like with an aft motor well. Dano's 30 had a forward motor well, and they soon ditched that location because it did so many things everyone disliked. The prop was not blowing on the rudder, so it did not steer well at low hull speeds, and it cut the cabin in half. The later ones put the engine well next to the rudder. They offered this as an option on CM 32's, but I have never seen one, (seen very poor photos so I know they made a few, far more in the CM30's) or talked to any one with one.
Seems to me, I could be wrong, that a sail drive engine in a well, might be a better boat, than a boat with a small diesel engine??? One issue would be modern sailboat gas engines are pretty sweet. Pricey, but sweet. A modern engine in a well, with full controls, would be the smallest footprint in the boat. You would hardly know it was there, till you needed it. The drive well is 100% sealed off from the cabin, so running properly, there would never be an issue with smells, loud sounds, and the like.
Guess what I am saying, is two 32's may not be the end of the trail for me. I would still like to get one with a sail drive well. example http://www.sailingtexas.com/sclippermarine32a.html
