| I am in serious need of a replacement rudder Any ideas/ links? I contacted a company that makes rudders but no response yet. Most I find on the web are replacements for O'days and other popular models.
I hope I am not asking too many questions?

| See this thread: https://clippermarine.forumotion.com/t275-rudder-dimensions-for-30-clipper-marine#1018 My memory was way off. I found what I was looking for, but it was for a Mac 25. The principles are the same, if you want to make one. I made a dagger board years ago. Pretty easy really if you have a space to work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEdruYbOxA8 I have a CM32 rudder, same thing, only a little heavier. Could I get talked out of it? If the price was right. lol It is on a boat I may be parting out. | |

| Price would depend on if it was the first part to get me to tear her down, or after the ball is rolling and I am doing clean up.
If it were the first part off of her, I would want a higher price than say a year from now as I am getting it swept up.
I think it would be pretty easy to make one. If you want me to, I can make you an exact copy and mail that to you. It would be stronger than a used one, and maybe cost less as it would not be an original part from a 35 year old boat.
Making one, you could also ask for more help in turns, by increasing the bow edge of the rudder in the water. Kind of like power stearing on a car.

| I called a guy about making me a rudder, a rudder shop somewhere on the east coast. He told me that the CM 26 is basically a Catalina 25. So I am debating on if I buy one or repair mine. I do like the wood look of my rudder and tiller. The new ones are plastic looking.
I can say that my rudder gives me feedback, or as I think now It might be a bad sign. When the boat starts to cruse a bit the rudder begins to vibrate. Honestly I am not sure if this is normal or a sign of "your rudder is about to snap", perhaps its an indication that the boat is almost hull speed.
I like the drawing, thanks for posting it frelichth. It will give me options.

| Hello from Idaho. Yes soon it will be boat weather. The dimensions you request are: total length 6 feet; total width 1 foot 3 inches and the blade height is 3 foot 1 and 1/2 inches. That's all the owners manual gives. I built one for my 21 footer that is a tip up. If interested I will send you the information I have. Russ | |

| I have a MacGregor 25 aluminum rudder, that I would take $200 for. It is in good shape, and you would be better served using that, then building one out of wood. It is a kick up rudder. Comes will tiller handle. | |

| Gary , What boat are you thinking of parting out or selling?
I work with sheet metal and aluminum all day. So i keep thinking of making a replacement rudder for my 32 out of marine aluminum. I will decide when i get the boat out of water for bottom paint and fittings.

| I sold my Mac25 a couple years ago, and it had two rudders. Still have the extra in a building. | |

| Gary, do you still have the Mac Rudder? I'm going to have to pay a fine for littering in Rich Passage. Trying to stay near shore to avoid the current, I ended up hitting the rocks and only have about half a rudder left. I notice that the top half of the rudder isn't terribly useful. The problem is the older son is due back on vacation and wants to go sailing for a few days. Hard to do if there is no functioning rudder.
8 days, probably over 100 miles. A mix of gunk holes and marina slips. All on a 74 clipper marine 26 with the original '74 motor. (well except for the parts where I used the dinghy's motor...) And dry floors! A first for this boat!

| When there is no other options available... Started with oak boards and a quart off west systems epoxy. | |
