| I acquired a 1976 CM32 recently and I am very happy with her. She's very clean (inside and out) newer sails, new rigging, hull is in good condition, etc. The only thing wrong with her is the broken strut. (Yes, broken. Bent and snapped) I knew this at the time I got her and working in the automotive world for so long, I didn't think it would be so hard to find. Well, it's not in the automotive world. Boats are different, so I have learned. I cannot for the life me, find a shaft strut for a CM32. It's almost become like the search for the Holy Grail. (Now, that I have finished with my sob story) Does anyone have any ideas, or the strut itself!? Thanks for your feedback. Lulu | |

| Welcome Lulu, glad you found us. I can't offer any help in your quest other than to suggest a good machine shop to Fab a new one. Please check in frequently and give us updates. Oh and pics of coarse. | |

| Hi Everett, Thanks for your reply. I have thought (well, with the help of a friend) to have one fabricated. The problem with that is, I need dimensions, measurements etc and if possible, a picture. I'm a picture girl. Pictures say a thousand words, right? I thought I found my strut on Ebay but apparently the angle was wrong. Everett, do you know? I'd be your best friend | |

| I will keep looking to see if I have any more detailed pics.
My boat (sister to yours) is in the water, so no good trying to get pics or measurements. My 32 sloop, may not be the same con fig, and that part is already missing, as the PO removed engine.
If the parts were the same, ????, Everett is your best bet.
I would bet it is an off the shelf universal part. Look at the adjustments nuts close to the hull.

This guy has the information you seek. He is going to charge you for his time, but he can look up the part number and the manufacturer, I am pretty sure.

| Do you think the aft cockpit and the aft cabin are the same hardware on the propeller shaft? Some things are heavier duty on the aft cockpit. It is also a newer design by a year or so, seems to me from my studies. Be interesting to see if the images are similar.
Any machine shop could make one in a heartbeat if they had her boat to work from.

| Gary, the pics you posted, are they all of the aft cabin model? They are all definitely more robust than my sloop. Also the angles look greater. Still dark here so no pics yet.
Lulu, do you have the sloop or aft cabin model?

| I have the aft cabin model. (Which I like to call the "after berth") Does the strut differ between the sloop and aft cabin models? | |

| Interesting to note, the two different boats, also have different parts. Mine is adjustable (leaving me to wonder if mine is an aftermarket one, being replaced along the years) | |

Yes, the aft cabin model. I was unable to find any good pics of a aft cockpit model till you posted yours.

| Is it possible that the strut in the first picture is aftermarket and the strut in Everett's picture are stock? My strut is definitely not as bulky as the first ones Gary posted but identical the ones Everett posted. I think it's time I take a picture to show you guys what mine now currently looks like. I'll make sure to do it when I get home. | |

| Part of my bulk is crud I had not cleaned off before these pics were taken. The circle shape in the center is Zinc to protect other metals. The 2 nuts / bolts are angle adjustments that make me feel it is a universal replacement of some kind. | |

| I have an owners manual for all of the clippers. It shows part number 608 in the book, but does not give an measurements. It does show that the angle of the shaft reference the hull is 12 dgrees and there is 1 1/4 inch minimum clearance for the prop.
I would think you could find someone in San Diego that could build one out of aluminum and bush it or add bearings based on the angle and shaft size.
If you had to you could shim the mounting plate at the hull to get everything lined up.
You may also drive up to Santa Anna and see if you can find anything in the area about the company. You may be able to track down some blue prints.

| Mr. Retired1, thank you for you information! Greatly appreciated. I have my owners manual too however, it seems it's gotten wet over the years and much of it isn't readable. | |
