| Hi all.
Today was my first day out on the water with "Sabrina" 21CM that I got a month ago.
She is my first boat ever.
So today me and a friend of mine decided to enjoy the awesome weather we have here in Vancouver and to go out and try the boat. None of us ever sailed before.
So we are going out of the marina, and just after 3 minutes we hit a underwater rock ledge and we get stuck.
We checked inside, there is no water coming in so we are safe for now. I know the tide is coming so that makes me feel better. Anyway, after 15 min of rocking the boat, gunning the engine we finally managed to escape and I just started to raise the mainsail when my friends phone rings.
His boss needs him to go to work ASAP.
Needles to say I turn the boat around and we go back to the marina.
After I tied the boat , I spent the rest of the day fixing the swing keel, so that I can reel it in next time I get stuck.
I just hope the my next outing will be more succesfull.
Cheers | |

| When flying, and landing you walk away from is a good one. Sailing is pretty much the same motto. Glad you got her out, and all went well. (pretty well) The first day or so, you learn 80% of everything you need to sail, and the other 20% you spend the rest of your life learning. Thanks for reporting in. As a new web site, I am glad to see people using the place. | |

| Awesome that you made it out!! Has to be a great feeling to untie for the first time on your own sailboat. Still waiting for that. I think one of the worst scenarios is running aground. Well youv'e done that now so it's out of the way. I would suggest if you must take a phone leave it off unless there is an emergency on board. The one place the world should not be allowed to interrupt us is sailing. Hope you get back out soon and please keep sharing w/ us. | |

| Good story. Glad it all worked out. My first time out...on my SouthCoast 22' sailboat, I forgot to lower the keel, we kept slipping sideways with no forward motion at all, approaching shore rocks, I jump from the boat toward shore to then push the boat away from the rocks, but I missed. Hyperextended my knee; blacked out and collapsed from the pain, wake to my wife calling out my name with the boat almost on ground. Longer story short...got the USCG to tow me back in. Glad you made it out and back. The other comment was on target, leave your phone off...nothing should interrupt sailing. I had to tell a gal that works for me to turn off her @%%%$ phone or I'd see if it could swim. :-) | |

| Good advise for the phone.
Next sailing will be the next sunny day( we don't get too many at this time of the year), I hope there wont be too much to report.
Now I know what not to do:-) | |
