| I have a ladder on the starboard side stern of MesquiteBean that was broken on the left side at the fitting where it folds in half. I cut off the broken side to make it even, then cut the other side to an equal length. I drilled new holes and riveted the fittings in place. Now I can use the ladder! | |

It adds up. Do you have a big list before getting her in the water? Nice ladder by the way. Something we need, just have a hanging one now w/ the plastic steps. Hard to get up barefoot and once you get to the stern impossible w/ fins on. I understand the benefit of a "sugar scoop" transom. Detriment in large following seas and theft safety but perfect the rest of the time. Swimming, fishing and dingy access is excellent for. We will end up building a platform/ladder combo at some point. Will be able to fold up and flush. But there's a lot to do first.....

| Thanks, it sure makes her easy to board. My list is not too big, it just has big items on it. Mast broken in half, Rudder broken into three peices, cracked keel locker starboard at floor, missing table, rotten keel wench support board, all PO. Got her in March last year, just now able to begin work as I have moved her to my work (nice boss) and have room to spread out in a fenced yard.
Now I need to learn...what is a "Sugar Scoop" Transom? and why is it a detriment in large following seas and theft safety? and what are following seas?...Thanks for your interest Everett CM32!

| Sugar scoop is basically a reverse transom. Where the stern of a nice wineglass transom usually sweeps/rakes back, a sugar scoop sweeps forward. Some are flush and may have indents for steps. The "sugar scoops" look just like one and have a platform plus steps.
Problem in following seas, waves that come from behind you, is that should the waves break on the stern it is easily pushed down. Easily pooped.
