the price of getting cm32 into sailing shape

Hi,

I'm new to forum and sailing.

I'm looking to buy a cm32 and trying to estimate how much I would have to put into it.

The boat did a 10 hr trip a year ago. However, I have some concerns. (1) the rigging might need to be replaced. (2) the hull needs to be worked on. it has a lot of algae and at some parts, you can see fiberglass from rubbing. I would think the boat needs to be taken out cleaned and coated in some parts or whole. (3) one of the keel bolts needs to be replaced. (4) the water tank has a leak at the top.
the boat has been kept in water at marina.

what other maintenance one does? anything else I should be looking at?

Again, I apologize for the silly questions but I already did extensive internet research and I would greatly appreciate your advice.

If you want the most accurate account for what repairs are needed and an estimated cost, you can hire a marine surveyor who will answer all your questions with certainty. All any of us could do is guess.

The 32's are a special breed. Biggest of the Clipper Marines, and not many of them around anymore.

Is this one an Aft cabin, or an aft cockpit?

Inboard diesel?

not sure what is the dif between aft cabin and after cockpit. inboard disel i think. starts slow so I think it might need some cleaning (i work on my motorcycle).

surveyor would cost comparable to the price of cm32, some go for $3000 so it's not really an intelligent option. I'd rather get a boat that sails reliably.

if someone would ask me the same question about my motorcycle, i'd be able to give a list because i have experience working on it and paying for parts. I was hoping that people on this forum could share their experience. I'm not looking for a specific evaluation. i'm just trying to figure out what i'm getting into.

I purchased two CM32's. One without a survey, and one with one. The one with a survey is setting happily at the marina waiting to go sailing. The survey-less CM32 is in my backyard needing all sorts of stuff to make her happy again. It sails, but it needs work.

If she floats, that is a plus.

She starts, that is a big plus.

I decided to approach the problem more carefully, read some books on surveying, may be get a surveyor at the final step and calling shops to get a quote to have a more precise estimate. there are too many stories on line of people needing to put a lot of money into the boats they boat.
