I finally got the boat up high enough to get to the winch cable. What a mess. Here is the problem. I think the winch and cable exit locations have been moved. My winch is mounted right in front of the hatch entrance to the cabin in about the center. It is inside the cabin with access through a screw off inspection port. The winch handle will not operate with the hatch closed. The handle hits the hatch. Design flaw? I don't think so. Also there is a pulley inside the trunk and another outside in front of the winch, but the cable is not coming directly to the winch, and it has cut a groove in the top of the trunk.
Does anyone have a sketch or photos of how this should be connected? I have my own ideas, but perhaps there is someone that can help. Also why not change cable for some of the new high teck line? Seems like a lot less maintenance in the long run. One more thing. I plan on doing a lot of shoal type sailing. Many of the lakes around here are quite shallow. Can a person drill a second hole through the keel and put a pin say at half the keel down position? It would take the load off of the cable/rope connection.
