First topic message reminder :
After several months of trading occasional emails, often times a month apart, today I shook hands (via telephone) with Hal to purchase his Clipper Marine 32 Ketch and six wheel trailer, in California.
Thank You Hal, I will take good care of her, and put her to good use.

Parked the boat at my place of business (sure suite mates are somewhat peeved at that, no doubt in my mind)
The hull gel coat restoration has begun.
Wet sanding with very fine grit. Followed by buffing, and polishing.
One bid I got was $3,500.00 OUCH! I can do it myself in between customers for a lot less, say $3,400.00 less.
My wife will be doing the cleaning above the rub rail. It is in far less distress.
The sails look toast. Will be purchasing new ones, or possibly robbing the other sailboat, as it has some extras.
Steering system all looks 100% Everything works, and there is complete range of motion with no binding. It is an Edson with feedback to the helm, with a brake. That will be a welcome change from a tiller, which I have had a love hate relationship from the 80's and will be glad to see that go.
Removed the two marine batteries today, and tomorrow two new ones take their place. Then we see if the starter engages.
If it does, we change all fluids before we start the engine. If it does not, I hire a marine diesel mech. Problem is, this is Nebraska, and there are no marine diesel people here. No parts, no service. Not that I have located yet.
Assuming it cranks, change fluids and filters, add fresh diesel, and diesel additive, and we try starting her.
If she starts, we look to repair the exhaust leak that is a big one, a section of exhaust has rusted away.

Great to hear she is home safe and the hands on is begun. Makes it nice that you have her where you can work on her as you get time rather than waiting for the weekend.
The mast, rigging, hardware all look satisfactory to you?
Is the cabin in good shape w/ some general cleaning?
All the best, Ev.

I must report the overall shape of the boat as filthy, as no one has been near her in three years. I think the sails are toast. Lettering old and brittle, falling off of sails. I only looked at two of them, but if they are all like that, would make a good dog bed and little else.
Hull is sound. Deck is sound. Helm and controls is as new within a couple degrees
Does not show signs of having been used as a goldfish bowl. No internal water damage noted so far
Heavy oxydation of light blue gel coat. Boat liiks to be a white boat.

How are the "before" and "restoration-has-begun" pics looking? I can't be the only one waiting to view them.

Before and after. After still needs work, but I am glad to report it is all still in good condition.
Still some mold and grime present, but this is with several layers removed.

That's a very dramatic change. The light blue that you see in your before pictures is the color of the Munchkin's decks after I scrubbed them. Seeing that dark blue on Sugar Bee makes me want to do some serious scrubbing and see if I can't find something else.
What did you use beside the scrub brushes?

I used a product called Wet & Forget along with some automotive car wash.
about two cups of W&F and two cap fulls of car wash soap in a bucket of water.
Lots of scrubbing. Lots of it.
W&F is also good at cutting through mold, algae, dirt by just saying it on, and walking away. but that is too slow. takes months.

...clean up well, they could be worth the price you paid for the boat. Sweet! Oxy-clean did wonders for my sails. soaked them in a heavy concentration in warm water using a mop to move them around in the tub. Air dried them in the breeze in no time...very white results.

my computer says Sears and Home Depot have it.
Called Walgreen's, they have it. I have a whirlpool bathtub here at the shop that should make a nice washing machine for sails.

Rain all day yesterday made it impossible to work on the boat. Today I see the sun peaking out, so off I go again.
Everything is out of the aft cabin, stripped clean. That will be Sugar Bee's bedroom in the "Sugar Bee". It will be decorated like any small dig would like, a few pictures of bitches he would love to date, and maybe a cat in a tree poster. Dog treats and fetch toys.

Subject: My Diesel Parts Are In Thu Apr 19, 2012 7:53 am
Once the ups guy drops off my package, I will race to the diesel shop and maybe, just maybe that engine gets fired up this week. It is Thursday, so it would not surprise me if this all spills over into next week.
Step by step things are falling into place.

I have had problems saving pages from Defender in my bookmarks. Must be the same issue for copying links.
Gone also needs bottom paint so I am interested to see how well it covers for you.

Parts came in on the 19th. Today is the 25th and the diesel shop has started work. A piece on the exhaust was bad, and in trying to repair it, the exhaust manifold needed to be removed. The exaust manafold gasket a part that will needed ordered.
It is Wed. so the gasket will not get here till next week. That means two more weekends for sure before the engine is running. That means the third weekend the boat can get polished and a bottom coat. That means a month before that boat gets even close to the water.

Beautiful weather, clear skies, fair winds, and your engine is in pieces. Now that's a sad story if I've ever heard one. The only recommendation I can offer is borrow a bigger outboard to hang on the back of the Warrior until Sugar Bee is ready to launch. I've heard it said that a bad day of sailing is better than a good day any where else.
As for me, I'm counting down the days. Evening of May 3rd we take off to pick up my new boat.

Glad you are using the animated Giff. I was making one for each clipper (I guess they are made in my computer) but when Mark purchased a non-clipper, I lost interest. I cannot make one for every sailboat ever made.
I have located a couple suitable outboards, but that fool boat has cost me more than one day of grief as I struggle to use it. I got one great day of sailing out of it.
My thinking is I am going to swap parts, and vend her off. If I am going to do that, putting money in her, would be foolish.

That's why I was thinking you might, perhaps borrow an outboard, until Sugar Bee is ready.
I think the animated gif is fun. Could it be done so that when inserted a dialog box is opened, where a number could be entered? The number would be displayed and change the displayed size. Either way, I think you need one with a mizen mast.

I do not borrow stuff. If I don;t own it, I don't need it.
I made up one for each Clipper Marine. Just lost motivation to up load em. Just cant make one for every sailboat.
I wanted them to all be the same size, about 40 x 40 pixels. I bogged down at that point.

Strange how much a motor plays into the ability and joy of sailing sometimes. Boat size and or engine configeration definitely becomes an issue after a certain length.
While the CM26 is apparently easy to single hand under power our Seacraft 26 is not. It can be done but not really in a safe manner. If control lines were led into the cockpit it would be OK. In fact there are old holes that look as though it may have had them at one time. Nothing I will ever mess with. When we get the Clipper down here it will become my sons concern.
I can't imagine an outboard being convenient on a CM32.
