| Said that because the trailer is registered as "home made" and of a much newer year than the boat so it could not be imported in to Canada. I don't know about that. So, she's back on the market. BTW, the trailer looks factory built to me. | |

| My trailer is factory built but is also registered as homemade. I did, however make sure the build date matches the boat.
When I bought my boat, the trailer did not have a license plate. Apparently it was not law to have them in the early '70s. The person I bought it from bought it from the Sea Scouts who informed him that it still didn't need plated due to its age.
I was driving my boat home from a trip to Eastern Oregon when I was pulled over for not having plates. Apparently it IS the law to have them on any trailer that had a loaded weight over 1500 pounds.
I took the trailer to the DMV and they weren't sure what to do with it. There was no VIN or markings anywhere. So they decided to give it a VIN and license it as a "Homemade" trailer. There just wasn't any other way to classify it or prove what it was. My local DMV decided to date it the same as the boat but I can see where another may date it for whenever they thought appropriate.
It sounds like this was probably the case with your trailer. |
