| I see this question come up on other firums, and that question is a valid one
Would you buy a former charter boat?
A charter boat is a little like buying an old taxi cab or an old city bus.
I mention bus, because one day, i am at a friends home, in the country, and peering out of the weeds and trees is a city bus i used to ride as a kid. The city was far Way, out of state, so seeing my childhood bus was somewhat of a shock.
A charter boat, may get great care, but by in large, they tend to be abused and neglected.
If the price was right, would you take on an old charter boat?

| I would compare it more to buying a rental car. I would agree they may get abused but fail to see how a boat that gets used more than any privately owned boat is neglected.
I think I would buy one if it passed survey. I know people who own a charter boat in Hawaii and it gets maintained constantly. It also has two captains who love that boat and care for it meticulously. One of the two if them sails that boat every day.

| I would think meticulous maintenance records from a marina known for good work, would be a real plus. Do it yourself work from the boat owner, could make me want to keep looking elsewhere for a sailboat.
My 32 Aft Cabin, WAS NOT a charter boat, but I was very happy to inherit all the work receipts done to her over the years.
My 32 Aft Cockpit had a lot of do it yourself projects done to her, and some of them, look more Red Green Show, than marina inspired.
Just shows, no boat is immune to PO silliness.
